Big Cat Photo Experience Day

2008 dates will be announced soon

Our next workshop will be at the Wildlife Heritage Foundation based at Smarden, Kent on (2008 date to be announced). On this workshop you will have the opportunity to photograph the cats at close quarters.

The Wildlife Heritage Foundation is a breeding programme for endangered big cats. Their aim is to breed the animals and hopefully reintroduce them into their native habitat in order to increase the populations. There are around 14 big cats at the WHF including Bengal, Sumatran and Siberian Tigers, Amur Leopards, Snow Leopard, Cheetah, African Lions and Ocelot.

The Wildlife Heritage Foundation is a private collection of big cats, the site is not open to the general public. It is not a zoo where there are double layers of wire fence between you and the animals. There is only one layer of mesh approx 7.5 cm square through which you will be able to put most lenses. You will be right up close to these beautiful animals all day and you will go home with some cracking shots. Most of the big cat images on this website were captured at the WHF, check them out and see what a fantastic days photography you are in for on our "Big Cat Photo Experience Day"

Due to the safety restrictions on site, the minimum age for this event is 18.

Carry on reading for the day's itinerary, the site facilities and what you will need.

At the Wildlife Heritage Foundation there is ample free car parking around the reception centre. At this centre you will find clean toilet facilities and a comfortable lounge in which we will take drink breaks and lunch that is included in the cost of the day. The animal enclosures are just a short walk from the centre should you need to return for any reason during the day.

To make to most of day you will need to bring the following;

Your camera with plenty of batteries, memory cards/film. Suitable clothing and footwear, we will be outside for the majority of the day so come prepared. You will NOT need a long lens for this workshop, a 200mm or 300mm zoom will be adequate any longer and you will be TOO CLOSE! A shorter lens will also be useful for close-up detail shots of the cats. You do not need an SLR camera to get good shots from this workshop, a good quality compact/pro-sumer will be sufficient. You may also wish to consider bringing a monopod for stability and a bin liner to kneel on.
